I love this toy. I recommend not using the handle that way it will not break the linkage. Instead I use the bucket. DO NOT USE IN SAND, if you use in good dirt it will work fine. Also be careful to not derail the tracks. My sister and I haul it around on our Bruder trailer and truck. We even have handles (trucking nicknames). Other than two complications, this is a GREAT toy.

Well-made, made in Germany, and safe. Only draw back is it doesn't have lights or sounds, and my son seems to be attracted to that, but this one should last for years.

CAT Backhoe Ride-on Toy Tractor For The Sandbox - NEW!

Impressive to look at. My 4 year old was excited at first but when it couldn't actually dig or push dirt he lost interest. The plastic is just too flimsy. We have a large pile of dirt that he plays in and I thought the backhoe would be cool to dig and push the dirt, but alas it won't do it. If we got a pile of sand maybe it would do better. I moved it over to the sand box and it could dig that loose, dry sand. But who has a sand pile in their yard large enough to hold this back hoe?

At first we had trouble locking the digger in place so he could drive it around. I had to contact the company to find out the trick. It is shown on a little picture next to the locking mechanism. I had missed that detail. It is pedal operated but the space is kind of small for my 4 year old to do the pedaling. He already had a battery powered vehicle so maybe pedaling wasn't so exciting for him. He did want to dig tho.

What ever the problem, it just sits in the yard. He rarely plays with this toy. Maybe a younger kid, a smaller kid, one who doesn't have a battery powered 4 wheeler already, one who has a huge sandbox would enjoy this it more.

A game of counting, colors and contrasts. Based on Eric Carle's best selling book.

!1: Best Buy My daughter got this when she was not quite 3. She is now almost 5 and still loves this game. The board and pieces are fairly sturdy. Sure, the little caterpillar boxes aren't heavy duty, but they will last (ours have and they still look new!) and do the job.

The game teaches a number of valuable and useful lessons: counting, taking turns, sharing, fine motor skills (putting the food pieces into the caterpillar boxes), gross motor skills (moving the pieces on the board), nutrition (which picnic food should you eat more of?), number recognition (from the spinning wheel), patience, and conversation skills (whose turn is it? where do you think you'll end next?), as well as colors.

It really is a great game and she loves playing it with anyone who she can rope into it - grandparents, parents, or friends over for play-dates, as well as babysitters (who also enjoy it). I feel that the game has been given unfair poor reviews and want to recommend this game very highly as a first game for a child. This is not the most sophisticated or difficult game to play and you do need to figure out for yourself how you want to best play at certain points; but this invites thinking for oneself, which is a value my family prefers to promote. on Sale!

This was a shower gift from my mom and I was thinking... cute, but how much fun will they be? She had seven kids, so I guess she knows what she is doing. My son loves them. We do all kinds of fun things in the bathtub with them including snapping them into a caterpillar, using them to rinse his hair, spinning the wheel in the smallest cup by using water from the biggest cup, exploring the concepts of in and out, smaller and bigger and practicing colors. It's like having an art class, a physics class, a spatial reasoning class and a manual dexterity class all while getting clean. Doesn't get much better than this.

Terriable, poor instructions for such a pricey item!!! VERY VERY time consuming to put together! It took 3 able adults over two hours to assemble. There was 3 bags of parts with 3 very very poor picture instructions. All "visual" instructions which they colored parts that were not the actual color. Overall it is a cool toy but our son gets frustrated that the excavator has to be removed in order to ride it. He also prefered his tool bench Santa brought instead! Should have "listened" to the other reviews which complained about similiar problems. Knowing what we know now, we would not have purchased this item.

the package arrived damaged,and evidently pieces were lost during shipping, when they went to put it together they discovered the missing parts, my daughter called kettler,(not the internet company i bought it from) and they sent the parts out so she had them 3 days later, well somehow the instructions in the box that they ordered the replacement part from, was not the same model that was actually in the box, so the parts were not correct, well here we are 4 days before christmas, and the "show stopper" is not able to be put together, again my daughter called kettler and they shipped the parts out overnight, and the backhoe/digger was put together in time for santa to deliver it too a very construction orientated 4 year old,and i don't think he has been off it since he got it

My 3 yr. old LOVES construction vehicles, but this drum compactor isn't loved like a Rolly from Bob The Builder. It hardly ever gets played with. I don't understand why the high reviews, there isn't much to this over-priced toy. The front/back roller drums spin, the fake steering wheel turns, and it has a pivot point in the middle. No sounds, no compartments to store things, zippo. If it is so realistic, why not allow the engine compartment to be seen!?! I'd be less annoyed if this was a $5 dollar item, but it is more than 3x that. Do your-self a favor and go to a garage sale and get 10+ toys for the price of this boring item.

When I first opened the package and saw all the pieces and poor instructions (pictures only type instructions), I was a little discouraged. But once I got strated, the assembly was actually really easy. I was able to put it together by myself in about an hour. The hardest part of assembly for me was the sticker placement. For the most part you only got one shot. If I tried to reposition them, they would tear. Even though it's mostly plastic, it seems to be pretty sturdy. It has enough to keep a little ones interest for a good while. And the option to buy extra accessories is nice. The only things I wish it had were a working horn, a gas cap/hole, a fake key of some sort and maybe a spot for a drink holder, as these type of extras seem to please most little ones. I would recommend this product to a friend as long as the price was not over $275.

This Bull Dozer was the first birthday present that my grandson opened on his "3rd birthday" and it was so compelling that he did not want to open any of his other presents. He just wanted to get right to work playing with it! He could do this because (thankfully) the batteries are included and it is set to go. Other than all the plastic ties that need to be removed to free the truck from the packaging, it is an instant winner. And it makes the best sets of sound, as it does all it's work. There are nifty little controls for the child to use to "run it" too. This gift was an instant winner with a child who has several other types of construction toys. It was nice to have something a little differnt from the rest of group.

As stated in the other reviews, the assembly directions are very poor. However, just go to www.kettler.com and watch the tutorial on how to assemble the tractor/loader/backhoe and how to use it. This toy is sturdy plastic, better than sharp, hard metal that can get too hot in the sun or can have cutting edges. It works realistically and will make any little tractor lover crazily happy. We were also missing parts, the two front wheel covers. The company quickly replaced them and our little guy was ready to roll. Well worth the cost, check ebay over amazon for price comparison, just look for companies with 99-100% ratings, don't buy from low rated sellers, you could regret it.

!1: Best Buy I gave this truck to my nephew for Christmas and it ended up being his favorite gift. He's 2 years old and is so enthralled with the noises and movement. He loads up lots of smaller toys in the bed of the truck and hauls them around. The next day the first word out of his mouth was "dump truck" and wanted to play with it. My grandson has had this for almost a year now. He got it from Santa in 2008 and he plays with it everyday. Always heading to a new construction site. Grandpa put it together with little difficulties. Time consuming, that's all. My grandson could operate the backhoe the first time he sat on it. It must be in his blood. My son got this toy for his first birthday. He is absolutely in love with this truck, and carries it everywhere. He doesn't yet have the finger dexterity to push the little buttons to make the noises, but when we do it for him he loves it. He can also hit at it and make some of the noises work, just by chance. There are a number of different noises and some great flashing lights, along with a shaking function and it goes forward and back. The lever that makes the bucket go up and down is great though, and he can manipulate it really easily. He loves loading leaves, toys, anything he can find into the bucket and raising and lowering it. The batteries run down pretty quickly, which is our only complaint - but I am more than willing to pay for batteries to keep the baby this occupied! A great toy.

We just bought this for our nephew, age 3. It teaches not only the letters, but the sounds each letter makes. It was very fun and entertaining for our niece, age 1, who "previewed" it today.
